CS2 Premier Season 5 Update: Full Breakdown of June 2026 Changes
On June 9, 2026, Valve introduced a new CS2 update with several changes. While the main part applies to Premier Season Five, the community is actively discussing the new bomb explosion mechanic. Of course, we also shouldn’t ignore two weapon collections. But what exactly changed, and is it the right update for the game? Let’s explore each detail and make sure you know everything about the changes.
Premier Season Five
Undoubtedly, many players waited for Premier Season Five. In fact, it could be almost the longest pause between seasons. Yet, it has finally begun, and everyone can show their skill on the battlefield.
At the same time, we should mention that there are slight changes in the Premier map pool. First, Overpass was removed from the Active Duty Map Pool. Instead, Cache was finally brought back to Premier, which is definitely great news for all the map’s fans.
New Collections in the Armory
Of course, another huge part of the new CS2 update is adding weapon and sticker collections to the Armory. Valve removed the following collections:
- The Train 2025 and Sport & Field weapon collections.
- The Sugarface 2 and Elemental Craft sticker collections.
Instead, now we have the same number of new weapons and sticker collections:
- The Spy Tech and Arabesque weapon collections.
- The Fruits & Vegetables and Auto Racing sticker collections.
Both weapon collections contain seventeen skins for each of them, with two Covert, two Classified, three Restricted, four Mil-Spec, and six Industrial weapon skins. Additionally, every player has a chance to find the finish that suits their goals and preferences. And, with a bit of luck, you can obtain AK-47 | Consequence of the Jinn or Glock-18 | Ghost Protocol.
Further adjustments
Of course, for the update with over 10GB of download size, there should be other details in the CS2 update. Let’s check them below.
Gameplay
With a new CS2 update, Valve fixed the issue where picking up dropped weapons via the Buy Menu would fail to complete. At the same time, a widely discussed topic applies to the new C4 explosive mechanic. Now, the shockwave damage rapidly expands from the center of the explosion.
Similar to the update with bullets and magazines, it looks more realistic. Another detail is that you have a better chance of surviving by using corners. Well, technically, players don’t need to guess whether they will survive or not. As part of the CS2 update, their health bar will flash a preview of the approximate damage from an explosion, depending on their position.
Workshop
For the Workshop, Valve updated “Custom Paint Job Extended.” Developers added the option to include a dedicated overlay mask texture and to set unique overlay UV randomization separate from albedo UV randomization.
Misc
Among other changes, Premier Season Five brought a reduced performance cost for showing the scoreboard. Now, you can more smoothly check if you or your friends are in a low-tab.
Additionally, Valve fixed a case where the material blending effect would disappear if you got too close. For example, it could happen with the dirt on the barrels in Inferno Banana.
If you like to create various sticker crafts, then be sure about each change. With the new CS2 update, sticker rotation precision has increased. In other words, the system allows you to make half-degree increments on the application screen.
Map Scripting
Of course, there are also a number of changes for community map makers and modders:
- Added Instance.QueueAfterThinks
- Added Instance.OnWeaponDrop
- Added CSWeaponBase.GetOriginalOwner
- Fixed a crash when the name was passed to the Instance.RegisterCheatCommand collided with an existing command.
- Added file name and line number to errors caught during the CompileModule step of script loading.
- Removed support for deprecated VTS assets.
Engine
In addition, Valve updated the engine code to the latest version of Source 2. It is a great sign of improving game performance and stability, ensuring players have a smooth session.
Maps
Overpass isn’t the only map facing changes. At the same time, it’s still not the same. Of course, we are talking about new community maps in different game modes. Here are the changes:
- Warden, Stronghold, Alpine, and Sanctum are removed from all game modes.
- Boulder, Fachwerk, and Shelter are added to Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch modes.
- Debris and El Dorado are added to Wingman mode.
Also, some maps get a slight update:
- Cache
- Various clipping adjustments.
- Dust II
- Fixed pixel gap Outside Tunnel.
- Clipping adjustment Outside Tunnel.
- Inferno
- Clipping fix to prevent pixel boost at Top of Mid.
Final Thoughts
As you can see, with each CS2 update, Valve continues to improve the game mechanics. It’s not about just skins, but different parts we usually barely notice during the game. Yet, they directly affect our experience. But, for now, it’s definitely more interesting to get new weapon skins in the Armory and look at the C4 explosion in every round (even if you play for the CT side). Be honest, how many times have you not bought defusal kits to watch this shockwave?
