The History of the Tec-9 | Citric Acid in CS2 (CS:GO)

Tec-9 | Citric Acid in CS2 (CS:GO) was designed by Valve as part of the eSports 2014 Summer Collection, which was released alongside the summer update to add flair and color to the existing pistol lineup. The skin officially appeared in-game on July 10, 2014, and quickly became favored for its standout bright orange and green aesthetic, providing an energetic contrast to standard weapon finishes. CS2 (CS:GO) Tec-9 | Citric Acid gained further attention during several CS:GO Majors, where iconic pistols and flashy plays by professional players helped popularize distinctive weapon skins like this one. Community hype for this skin surged during the early years of the eSports case tournaments, as it was a frequent unbox for entry-level skin collectors and those seeking affordable but memorable designs.

Transitioning into CS2, the Tec-9 | Citric Acid retained its energetic character and nostalgic value, becoming a favorite for players looking to evoke the early days of Counter-Strike skin collecting. Its long-standing presence and accessible price point have ensured that it continues to be appreciated in both casual and competitive play, with fans fondly remembering its role in the history of skin culture.

How Rare Is the Tec-9 | Citric Acid?

The Tec-9 | Citric Acid in CS2 (CS:GO) is a Mil-Spec (Blue) grade pistol skin, originally available through the eSports 2014 Summer Case. This means that CS2 (CS:GO) Tec-9 | Citric Acid occupies one of the more common tiers among weapon finishes. Rarity of Tec-9 | Citric Acid is bolstered by the fact that the eSports 2014 Summer Case was discontinued, effectively removing it from the active drop pool and making new unboxings impossible. Existing skins come from legacy stock or player-to-player trading.

The odds of unboxing the Tec-9 | Citric Acid were always significantly higher than rare finishes, due to its Mil-Spec status. However, since the case was removed, the number of available skins is slowly declining, which may marginally increase its rarity over time. There is no Souvenir version of Tec-9 | Citric Acid, but its popularity remains steady due to its bold finish and budget-friendly value compared to rarer alternatives.
