The History of the SSG 08 | Prey in CS2 (CS:GO)

The SSG 08 | Prey in CS2 (CS:GO) was designed by G-99Factory and first appeared as part of the "Inferno Collection," which launched on September 14, 2017 with the Operation Hydra update in CS:GO. Its unique animal pattern sets it apart, featuring a stylized animal hide design reminiscent of a predator in the wild.
Upon release, the SSG 08 | Prey was included as a randomly dropped skin from the Inferno Collection, quickly attracting attention from players for its affordable price and appealing design. While it didn\'t headline CS:GO Major tournaments or make waves like some top-tier sniper skins, there was significant community interest, particularly among budget-conscious snipers.
As professional play moved towards more organized events, the skin enjoyed small spikes in popularity anytime Inferno was featured in the tournament map pool. SSG 08 | Prey received a steady following, often appearing in highlight reels and inventory showcases.
With the transition from CS:GO to CS2, the CS2 (CS:GO) SSG 08 | Prey retained its unique place, benefiting from updated graphics and continued drops through the Inferno Collection. Its persistent low cost and recognizability have made it a mainstay for CS2 players and collectors, ensuring its presence in the competitive skin scene.

How Rare Is the SSG 08 | Prey?

The SSG 08 | Prey in CS2 (CS:GO) is classified as an Industrial Grade (light blue) skin, which is among the most common tiers in the game. The CS2 (CS:GO) SSG 08 | Prey can be acquired from the Inferno Collection, released during Operation Hydra and available as a random drop during certain operations or through trade-ups.
Rarity of SSG 08 | Prey is relatively low, given its Industrial Grade status and inclusion in non-limited drop pools for a significant time. However, it was removed from active drop rotations when Valve retired the original Inferno Collection, modestly affecting supply but still keeping it widely accessible.
Since it is not available in weapon cases but only via collection drops, the probabilities of unboxing one are relatively high compared to rarer grades.
There is no Souvenir version for SSG 08 | Prey, so odds of finding unique tournament variants are nonexistent, further cementing its status as a common yet popular skin among players who appreciate the classic Inferno designs.

SSG 08 | Prey Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern description:
The SSG 08 | Prey finish displays a detailed design that mimics animal hide, combining earthy brown, tan, and grey hues. The skin\\'s patterned fauna and forest elements provide a camouflaged appearance fitting for the SSG 08 sniper.
Pattern difference:
All SSG 08 | Prey variants share the same animal hide motif, with minor differences in pattern placement due to randomized skin application.
Effect of float:
The SSG 08 | Prey float value ranges from 0.00 to 0.55, allowing the skin to drop in all conditions from Factory New to Battle-Scarred.

SSG 08 | Prey Factory New:
This version features the cleanest, most vibrant finish with minimal to no visible wear. Sought after by collectors, the Factory New carries a small price premium over other conditions.
SSG 08 | Prey Minimal Wear:
Nearly as pristine as Factory New, this level displays very slight abrasions around the stock and barrel. It remains a cost-effective choice for pristine-looking inventories.
SSG 08 | Prey Field Tested:
The Field-Tested condition introduces minor scratches and faded areas across key handling surfaces, still retaining the overall design appeal at a reduced price.
SSG 08 | Prey Well Worn:
More visible wear appears, especially on the receiver and barrel, softening the detailed animal pattern and lending the skin a more battled look. It serves players who appreciate the rugged, used style at an even lower price.
SSG 08 | Prey Battle Scarred:
The most worn version, this SSG 08 | Prey displays significant abrasions and fading. While the details may be less pronounced, it remains budget-friendly for players unconcerned with cosmetic imperfections.
SSG 08 | Prey StatTrak™:
StatTrak™ versions of the skin come equipped with a digital kill tracker, adding a competitive edge and generally commanding a slightly higher price in each condition. These are ideal for players who wish to track in-game eliminations.
All wear levels offer the same features, but SSG 08 | Prey float value, finish, and StatTrak™ status play a big part in price and collector desire.
