The History of the SSG 08 | Abyss in CS2 (CS:GO)

The SSG 08 | Abyss in CS2 (CS:GO) was designed by ClegFX, a talented community artist known for creating visually engaging weapon finishes. This skin first appeared in July 2014 as part of the Operation Breakout Weapon Case and quickly gained attention due to its alluring, underwater wave patterns and cool color palette. Early adoption by casual players and streamers helped propel its reputation, but it was during several high-stake CS:GO Majors that the CS2 (CS:GO) SSG 08 | Abyss began garnering widespread visibility. Notable plays using the skin during these tournaments contributed to hype in the community, with fans associating it with memorable sniper moments. Over the years, community trading and game updates have kept the skin in circulation, while its transition into CS2 ensured continued popularity. Its accessible pricing and distinctive visual appeal, combined with nostalgia for its early CS:GO days, keep new and veteran players seeking the Abyss for both gameplay use and collection displays.

How Rare Is the SSG 08 | Abyss?

The SSG 08 | Abyss in CS2 (CS:GO) is a Mil-Spec (Blue) grade skin, which makes it one of the more common sniper rifle drops. CS2 (CS:GO) SSG 08 | Abyss is found in the Operation Breakout Weapon Case, and has also been included in certain weekly in-game drop pools. Since the skin remains available through its original case, it has not been removed from drop rotations, which supports a consistent supply and moderates its overall rarity. The rarity of SSG 08 | Abyss as a Mil-Spec item means unboxing it from a Breakout case is relatively common, with an estimated drop chance around 79.92% for Mil-Spec items per case. There are no Souvenir SSG 08 | Abyss variants, making regular versions the only type available. Its frequent presence in trade-ups and cases, as well as its eye-catching finish, have made it especially popular for both new and budget-conscious collectors.

SSG 08 | Abyss Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern description:
The SSG 08 | Abyss finish features mesmerizing aquatic swirls of blue and teal, reminiscent of an oceanic abyss, with wave-like patterns that shift subtly with the weapon's wear.

Pattern difference:
The look of the skin remains fairly consistent, but slight variations occur in wave details due to different pattern seeds, offering a touch of uniqueness to each drop.

Effect of float:
The SSG 08 | Abyss float value ranges from 0.00 to 0.50, making it available in all standard wear levels except Factory New Souvenir or StatTrak (as there are no Souvenir versions). A lower float value means crisper details and deeper colors, while higher floats bring noticeable scratches, especially on the receiver.

Factory New:
The SSG 08 | Abyss Factory New condition boasts vivid, undamaged colors with barely any wear, making it highly desirable among collectors. Factory New variants command a premium on the market due to their rarity and flawless look.

Minimal Wear:
The SSG 08 | Abyss Minimal Wear skin has subtle abrasions, mainly around the edges, but maintains much of the original luster. It is more affordable than Factory New but retains collector appeal.

Field-Tested:
The SSG 08 | Abyss Field Tested variant shows noticeable surface scratches and some fading, especially along high-contact areas. Its price is generally moderate, making it a popular everyday choice.

Well-Worn:
The SSG 08 | Abyss Well Worn skin reveals substantial wear, with faded blues and scratches across larger surfaces. While less vivid, it remains budget-friendly for players looking for style on a tight budget.

Battle-Scarred:
The SSG 08 | Abyss Battle Scarred variant exhibits extensive paint loss, scratches, and a duller finish, but some collectors enjoy the rugged, battle-hardened look. This version is the least expensive in most markets.

StatTrak™ versions:
The SSG 08 | Abyss StatTrak versions are available for all wear levels. These track confirmed kills and often fetch higher prices than standard variants due to their extra functionality and appeal to stat-focused players. The SSG 08 | Abyss StatTrak Field-Tested variant is particularly popular as an affordable upgrade with tech flair.
