The History of the SG 553 | Wave Spray in CS2 (CS:GO)

The SG 553 | Wave Spray in CS2 (CS:GO) was designed by Valve and made its debut as part of the Arms Deal Collection released on August 14th, 2013. Its signature wave-patterned, hydrographic finish quickly captured the attention of the community for its simplicity and clean aesthetic, which contrasted sharply with the more elaborate designs of the period.

Initially, the skin did not gain immediate fame but steadily rose in popularity among SG 553 fans, especially during major CS:GO tournaments when the weapon itself was buffed and became a staple in professional matches. This growing use in competitive play led to a spike in community hype, with players giving the skin a second look as they sought affordable yet visually interesting options.

As CS:GO transitioned to CS2 (CS:GO) SG 553 | Wave Spray maintained its accessibility and appeal through the updated engine, with improved lighting and textures giving the wave pattern a fresh vibrancy. While not the centerpiece at majors, its nostalgic value and practical appeal continue to make it popular among both new and veteran players.

How Rare Is the SG 553 | Wave Spray?

The SG 553 | Wave Spray in CS2 (CS:GO) is classified as an Industrial Grade (light blue) skin, positioning it as one of the more accessible options for the SG 553. It was originally available from The Arms Deal Collection, which is not a traditional weapon case but a drop pool featuring some of the game’s earliest skins.

The CS2 (CS:GO) SG 553 | Wave Spray is not obtainable from cases or current drop pools, having been removed from active drops, which influences its supply and rarity particularly for Factory New or StatTrak versions. As a result, new unboxings are not possible and the availability depends upon existing market supply.

There is no Souvenir SG 553 | Wave Spray, and as an Industrial Grade skin, the probability of unboxing (if it were in active cases) would be higher than rare skins, but its limited drop pool makes it less common today. The skin remains moderately popular due to its simple design and historical significance.

SG 553 | Wave Spray Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern description
The SG 553 | Wave Spray finish features an aquatic-inspired, hydrographic spray that covers the rifle's body in soft waves of gray, black, and white. The look is subtle and clean, making it an appealing pick for many.

Pattern difference
There is negligible visual difference between pattern indexes for this skin, so all instances of the skin look quite similar.

Effect of float
The SG 553 | Wave Spray float value ranges from 0.06 to 0.80, which means this skin is available in all five wear levels, from Factory New to Battle-Scarred.

Skin Features
The skin is available in both regular and StatTrak™ versions, allowing players to track their kills.

SG 553 | Wave Spray Factory New: This version features crisp, clear patterns with almost no wear. The SG 553 | Wave Spray price for Factory New is the highest, with minimal abrasions and a fresh appearance, favored by collectors.

SG 553 | Wave Spray Minimal Wear: Slightly more affordable than Factory New, this condition exhibits faint surface abrasions, but still preserves most of the clean design.

SG 553 | Wave Spray Field Tested: Noticeable wear appears along the edges and main surfaces. While it is more common, the price reflects its used look, making it a balanced pick between cost and appearance.

SG 553 | Wave Spray Well Worn: More prominent abrasions and faded areas are visible, and the finish looks more battle-tested. This tier is generally the least expensive, except for Battle-Scarred.

SG 553 | Wave Spray Battle Scarred: This condition has the most noticeable wear, with much of the hydrographic pattern faded or missing. Prices are usually the lowest, but it can appeal to those who prefer a rugged look.

SG 553 | Wave Spray StatTrak: The StatTrak™ variant is available for all wear levels, enhancing the skin's value and allowing kill tracking. SG 553 | Wave Spray StatTrak Factory New and Minimal Wear are particularly sought after and more expensive.

Overall, the SG 553 | Wave Spray finish subtly changes as wear increases, and the SG 553 | Wave Spray float value is a crucial factor in determining both its look and price.

SG 553 | Wave Spray Price & Market Value
