The History of the P2000 | Obsidian in CS2 (CS:GO)

The P2000 | Obsidian in CS2 (CS:GO) was designed by the renowned community artist M4n!ac. This skin was introduced on August 6, 2020, as part of The Fracture Collection, released during the "On the Case" update in the later stages of CS:GO. Inspired by volcanic rocks and molten obsidian, its design features fiery orange fissures breaking through a matte, dark stone-like surface, which immediately set it apart visually from other P2000 skins.

The CS2 (CS:GO) P2000 | Obsidian began to rise in popularity during community events and was frequently spotted during both casual and professional matches, thanks in part to its availability in cases connected to the Fracture Collection. While it never reached the infamy of ultra-rare AWP or AK-47 skins, the Obsidian developed a cult following among pistol round specialists and analysts, especially during CS:GO Majors, where distinctive and striking pistol skins often get their moment in the spotlight.

When CS2 was released, the skin transitioned seamlessly, retaining its appeal due to the updated graphics engine, which made the flowing orange veins and rugged textures appear even more vibrant and realistic. Community hype was notably strong at both initial release and during subsequent case openings, solidifying the P2000 | Obsidian as a favorite budget gem and a respected choice among enthusiasts and pro players alike.

How Rare Is the P2000 | Obsidian?

The P2000 | Obsidian in CS2 (CS:GO) is classified as a Mil-Spec (Blue) rarity. This makes the CS2 (CS:GO) P2000 | Obsidian one of the more common drops, yet the vivid, high-contrast finish ensures strong demand. The skin can be unboxed from the Fracture Case, which remains available both as a drop and on the Steam Community Market. It has not been removed from the drop pool, which keeps supply steady but does not diminish its collectibility due to visual appeal.

The odds of unboxing the P2000 | Obsidian are relatively standard for Mil-Spec items, estimated at about 79.92% for any Mil-Spec skin per Fracture Case opening. Unlike many more expensive pistols, there is no Souvenir P2000 | Obsidian, so collectors focus on perfect float values and StatTrak variants. Its popularity is bolstered by its affordable price point and widely appreciated design, making it a common, yet recognizable, choice among CS2 players.

P2000 | Obsidian Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern description
The P2000 | Obsidian finish draws inspiration from volcanic rock, featuring a dark, slate-like base disrupted by vivid orange fissures that resemble flowing magma. This eye-catching pattern is consistent across all wear levels, although abrasions increase with higher float values.

Pattern difference
There are no significant pattern or layout changes between individual drops—each P2000 | Obsidian maintains the distinctive obsidian effect.

Effect of float
The P2000 | Obsidian float value ranges from 0.00 to 0.50, permitting the skin to drop in every wear level except Well-Worn, which is not available for this finish. Lower float values result in smoother surfaces and vibrant colors; higher floats bring pronounced scratches, especially on the barrel and sharp edges.

Wear Levels Explained
P2000 | Obsidian Factory New
This version offers the sleekest texture and richest orange tones, with minimal scratches visible. Typically carries a slightly higher price and is favored by collectors.

P2000 | Obsidian Minimal Wear
Few tiny abrasions along the edges, but the finish remains bold and vibrant. Offers a balance between price and appearance, making it a common selection.

P2000 | Obsidian Field-Tested
Noticeable wear around the muzzle and slide, with more muted orange veins, making it affordable for budget-conscious players.

P2000 | Obsidian Well Worn
This wear level is not available for the Obsidian finish.

P2000 | Obsidian Battle Scarred
Pronounced abrasions across much of the weapon with the orange effect subdued, but still visible. Lowest in price and condition.

P2000 | Obsidian StatTrak
StatTrak™ variants are available in all conditions except Well-Worn, and track kills, making them highly desirable for competitive players. StatTrak™ also comes at a premium, particularly for Factory New and Minimal Wear.
