The History of the Nova | Tempest in CS2 (CS:GO)

The Nova | Tempest in CS2 (CS:GO) was designed by Valve’s in-house art team, embodying a bold and swirling blue aesthetic reminiscent of a storm-tossed sea. It made its first appearance on August 14, 2013, as part of the eSports 2013 Collection in CS:GO. Released alongside the Arms Deal update, it quickly gained traction with players for its standout color palette and affordability. While it didn’t enter the spotlight at major CS:GO tournaments like AWP | Dragon Lore or M4A4 | Howl, Nova | Tempest enjoyed healthy community hype, especially among newer players looking for affordable and stylish shotgun options. During key periods, such as post-major event sales, the skin saw a resurgence in trading activity. The transition to CS2 ensured the skin remained just as popular, now enhanced by Source 2's improved lighting and texture fidelity, making the blue tempests pop even more. While not the center of pro-level matches, the CS2 (CS:GO) Nova | Tempest maintains a loyal fanbase and continues to be a staple for collectors and those drawn to its unique marine theme.

How Rare Is the Nova | Tempest?

Nova | Tempest in CS2 (CS:GO) is classified as an Industrial Grade (light blue) skin, making it one of the more attainable shotgun finishes. The CS2 (CS:GO) Nova | Tempest was originally available through the eSports 2013 Case, which has since been removed from active drop pools, increasing its rarity over time. The Rarity of Nova | Tempest is lower compared to Covert or Classified skins, but as supply of the original eSports 2013 Case dwindles, unboxing odds have become increasingly slim. There is no souvenir version, which makes rare variants or sticker-laden Tempests especially prized. Despite its relative accessibility, its withdrawal from regular drops and the nostalgia factor contribute to its steady popularity among budget collectors and players alike.

Nova | Tempest Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern description:
The Nova | Tempest finish features a breathtaking blue-and-cyan swirling storm motif across the receiver and stock, standing out with its marine, tempestuous design.

Pattern difference:
This skin does not significantly vary in appearance based on pattern index; the main visual differences are due to wear and float value.

Effect of float:
Nova | Tempest float value ranges between 0.06–0.22, restricting the available conditions to Factory New, Minimal Wear, and Field-Tested only. Higher float values reveal more scratches and fade in the blue, while low float retains the vibrant artwork.

Nova | Tempest factory new:
Factory New offers the brightest blues and sharpest details, showing almost no wear. It commands the highest price in the market.

Nova | Tempest minimal wear:
Minimal Wear versions retain much of the strong color saturation with only very slight edge wear, offering a solid balance between appearance and affordability.

Nova | Tempest Field Tested:
Field-Tested skins begin to show visible scratches and color fading but maintain the stormy motif’s appeal. This version is the most budget-friendly.

Nova | Tempest well worn & Battle Scarred:
There are no Nova | Tempest well worn or Nova | Tempest Battle Scarred as the float value does not allow drops in these conditions.

Nova | Tempest StatTrak:
StatTrak versions track kills and are available in Factory New, Minimal Wear, and Field-Tested. Prices are higher due to added collector and prestige value. The StatTrak edition is favored by players who wish to showcase their kills with this classic finish.

Skin Features:
The Nova | Tempest finish remains consistent in pattern and design, with float value chiefly affecting visibility of scratches and wear. Collectors will find the best investment in low-float, Factory New, or rare StatTrak editions.

Nova | Tempest Price & Market Value

Nova | Tempest in CS2 (CS:GO) is regarded as an affordable skin, making it perfect for budget-conscious players and collectors. As of 2024, the Nova | Tempest price for Factory New ranges between $2 and $5 USD, with Minimal Wear options listed closer to $1.50–$2.50. Field-Tested Nova | Tempest price dips below $1.50, often hovering from $0.70 to $1.20.

There is no souvenir version available, so Nova | Tempest price is solely driven by the standard and StatTrak variants. StatTrak adds a premium and can push the Factory New Nova | Tempest price up to $10 or more in select listings.

How much is the Nova | Tempest ultimately depends on float value (lower is more valuable), rare stickers, and StatTrak tracker functionality. Is Nova | Tempest worth buying? For its iconic look and consistently low cost, the skin remains a smart purchase for collectors finishing their classic 2013 lineup or casual players wanting a vibrant shotgun design.
