The History of the Nova | Rust Coat in CS2 (CS:GO)

Nova | Rust Coat in CS2 (CS:GO) was introduced by the CS:GO development team at Valve and debuted on April 15, 2015, as part of The Chroma 2 Collection. The design features a raw, rusted metal finish, achieved not by digital art but by a custom rust-coating process on the original model—making it both simple yet visually distinct among Nova skins. When first released, its minimalistic "rusted" style caused intrigue in the community due to its realistic, worn-out aesthetic that embraced flaws as beauty. The skin gained more traction during CS:GO Majors, where budget skin loadouts and meme-based inventories became popular, and many content creators spotlighted its unique look in themed videos. Interest peaked as the Rust Coat joined various budget skin recommendation lists and started appearing in trade-up contracts for higher-tier players. With the transition into CS2, the CS2 (CS:GO) Nova | Rust Coat has kept its niche popularity, benefiting from updated lighting and rendering, which accentuates its pitted, oxidized texture. Passed over by many in favor of flashier skins, its cult following among collectors and fans of industrial-style weaponry continues to grow.

How Rare Is the Nova | Rust Coat?

Nova | Rust Coat in CS2 (CS:GO) is a Industrial Grade (Light Blue) skin, making it one of the more common drops among shotgun skins. The CS2 (CS:GO) Nova | Rust Coat can be unboxed from The Chroma 2 Case and The Chroma 3 Case, maintaining a steady supply. Rarity of Nova | Rust Coat is considered low compared to more exclusive skins, as it has not been removed from drop pools, keeping the odds of unboxing relatively high. While there are no Souvenir Nova | Rust Coat versions, the odds of obtaining this skin from a case are much greater than for classified or covert items. Its popularity endures among budget collectors and players; however, it's not considered rare by advanced collectors, keeping prices low but its charm high in the CS2 community.

Nova | Rust Coat Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern description
The Nova | Rust Coat finish features raw, pitted steel covered in variable layers of oxidation, giving each skin a distinctive rusty look. The randomness of the Nova | Rust Coat pattern difference means players can receive anything from a lightly rusted to heavily corroded appearance.

Effect of float
Nova | Rust Coat float value ranges from 0.00 to 1.00, which is unique and covers all wear levels. Higher float values make the rust effect stronger and darker, while lower floats reveal more steel and lighter coloration.

Nova | Rust Coat factory new: While labeled as "Factory New," the skin still shows a rust effect, but it's faint, with more visible metallic parts. As one of the most desirable types, Nova | Rust Coat factory new variants can be priced higher due to the rarity of lighter, cleaner rust.

Nova | Rust Coat minimal wear: These showcase moderate rust, balancing both clean steel and oxidation. Nova | Rust Coat minimal wear is slightly less expensive than factory new, appealing for its balanced appearance.

Nova | Rust Coat Field Tested: These have prominent rust, with only slight hints of bare steel. Nova | Rust Coat Field Tested is affordable and common, making it popular among budget players.

Nova | Rust Coat well worn: Heavy rust dominates, with almost the entire weapon covered in orange and brown hues. Nova | Rust Coat well worn options are valued for their deep, rugged look.

Nova | Rust Coat Battle Scarred: The darkest and most rust-covered, almost no steel can be seen. Nova | Rust Coat Battle Scarred skins are usually the least expensive but offer a uniquely post-apocalyptic vibe.

Nova | Rust Coat StatTrak: StatTrak versions are available in every wear level and track the number of kills. Nova | Rust Coat StatTrak models often fetch higher prices, particularly in factory new/minimal wear.

Nova | Rust Coat float value and finish make each skin look different, so some collectors seek out extremely high or low floats for unique appearances.
