The History of the MP9 | Hydra in CS2 (CS:GO)

MP9 | Hydra in CS2 (CS:GO) was introduced as part of the Operation Hydra Case during the Operation Hydra event, which launched in May 2017. The skin was designed by the talented community creator G-99Factory, known for their creative and standout weapon finishes. Its debut was notable due to its detailed snake-inspired theme, adding a new level of artistry to the MP9 skin lineup.

Upon release, the skin received a warm welcome, especially during the height of the Operation Hydra campaign and various CS:GO Majors, where professional players showcased it in high-stakes matches. Community hype around the CS2 (CS:GO) MP9 | Hydra surged due to its distinct pattern and vibrant color palette, quickly propelling it to the top tier of sought-after SMG skins.

Following its initial popularity, the MP9 | Hydra maintained its relevance, transitioning smoothly into CS2 where it continues to be highly coveted. Its continued use by casual and pro players alike has cemented its status as one of the most recognizable MP9 skins available, with its legacy reinforced every time it appears in competitive play.

How Rare Is the MP9 | Hydra?

The MP9 | Hydra in CS2 (CS:GO) boasts a Classified rarity, placing it among the rarer SMG skins available in the game. Players could previously obtain it from the Operation Hydra Case, which was introduced as part of the Operation Hydra update. However, with the discontinuation of this case, the CS2 (CS:GO) MP9 | Hydra is no longer available in active drop pools, significantly impacting the skin's supply and increasing its rarity on the market.

The probability of unboxing the MP9 | Hydra from its original case is estimated to be less than 3%, making it a rare find. There is currently no Souvenir MP9 | Hydra version available, which makes the existence of high-float, stickered, or low-wear hydra skins even more desirable among collectors.

Popularity-wise, the skin maintains a loyal fanbase and frequently appears in trading circles and community showcases, confirming its place as a highly valued and sought-after item in the MP9 category.

MP9 | Hydra Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern description
The MP9 | Hydra finish showcases a stylized green serpent pattern slithering across the body of the weapon, set against a dark base. Its bold, venomous look stands out in any inventory.

Effect of float
The MP9 | Hydra float value ranges from 0.00 to 0.80, covering all five standard wear levels and enabling a wide variety of appearances depending on the skin's condition.

Factory New
The MP9 | Hydra factory new condition displays the skin in flawless quality, with sharp colors and no visible wear. It is the most visually striking and typically the most expensive variant.

Minimal Wear
The MP9 | Hydra minimal wear has only slight abrasions, with most of the original vibrancy intact. Collectors often seek this as a slightly more affordable alternative to Factory New.

Field-Tested
MP9 | Hydra Field Tested versions show moderate wear, with small scratches and faded areas, especially around the edges, but still retain the iconic serpent design.

Well-Worn
The MP9 | Hydra well worn displays increased abrasions, reducing the brightness of the finish and making the skin appear slightly aged.

Battle-Scarred
MP9 | Hydra Battle Scarred versions show heavy wear, with large portions of the serpent pattern faded or scratched off, making these the cheapest but least visually appealing.

StatTrak™ versions
All wear levels, including MP9 | Hydra factory new and MP9 | Hydra minimal wear, are available in MP9 | Hydra StatTrak. These feature an integrated StatTrak™ kill counter, significantly increasing their value. Lower float and StatTrak variants fetch the highest premiums.

Pattern differences are negligible as the design is largely consistent, but float value greatly affects the finish's vibrancy and market price. The MP9 | Hydra finish, especially in StatTrak™ form and minimal float values, stands out as a premier choice for both display and play.

MP9 | Hydra Price & Market Value

MP9 | Hydra price varies significantly depending on wear level and StatTrak™ status. In the current CS2 (CS:GO) market, MP9 | Hydra price for Factory New floats around $20-$30, with MP9 | Hydra price in Minimal Wear typically between $10-$18. Field-Tested versions cost approximately $6-$10, while Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred range between $4 and $8. StatTrak™ editions, in all conditions, demand a significant premium – expect to pay $25-$50+ for Factory New or Minimal Wear StatTrak™ versions.

There are currently no Souvenir versions of this skin available, so prices depend on regular or StatTrak™ status, float value, and whether the skin is adorned with valuable stickers.

Factors impacting How much is the MP9 | Hydra include float value (lower floats are preferred), presence of rare stickers, and overall market demand. Is MP9 | Hydra worth buying? For players who love unique snake-themed designs and want a relatively rare Classified SMG skin, it’s a sound investment – especially in the lower float, StatTrak™ versions.
