The History of the MP5-SD | Desert Strike in CS2 (CS:GO)

The MP5-SD | Desert Strike in CS2 (CS:GO) was created by the well-known artist FRem, who is recognized for his work on tactical and futuristic skin designs. The skin made its debut in CS:GO as part of the Horizon Case, released on August 2, 2018. The CS2 (CS:GO) MP5-SD | Desert Strike quickly drew attention due to its sleek, militaristic aesthetic, echoing the established popularity of the Desert Strike finish family on other weapons such as the AK-47 and USP-S.

The skin's rise to fame was marked by its appearance during various CS:GO Major tournaments, where it was often chosen for its distinctive look and compatibility with different loadouts. Community hype around new MP5-SD skins, especially as the weapon began to see more play following updates, helped solidify the Desert Strike's status amongst fans.

With the transition into Counter-Strike 2, the MP5-SD | Desert Strike retained its appeal, gaining even more popularity as updated graphics and lighting made its details stand out. Today, both casual players and skin collectors view the skin as a solid, reliable option for MP5-SD enthusiasts, and it remains a staple in both new and veteran inventories.

How Rare Is the MP5-SD | Desert Strike?

MP5-SD | Desert Strike in CS2 (CS:GO) belongs to the Mil-Spec (blue) rarity class, which makes it relatively common compared to higher-tier skins. The CS2 (CS:GO) MP5-SD | Desert Strike can be obtained as a regular drop from the Horizon Case, but is not available in souvenir form. Rarity of MP5-SD | Desert Strike is therefore considered low, as it is one of the more accessible options for players looking to upgrade their MP5-SD.

Since its introduction, the skin has remained consistently in the drop pool, contributing to its steady supply and modest market price. Unboxing odds for Mil-Spec items are naturally higher than higher rarities, increasing the likelihood of acquiring one from the Horizon Case. Its consistent availability and reasonable drop rate have ensured that the MP5-SD | Desert Strike continues to be a popular choice among players.
