The History of the MAG-7 | Sonar in CS2 (CS:GO)

MAG-7 | Sonar in CS2 (CS:GO) was originally designed by Valve artists and was introduced to the game as part of the Operation Wildfire Collection on February 17, 2016. Its thematic blue and black sonar pattern stood out from other shotguns in the update, immediately grabbing attention for its modern and dynamic look.

The history of CS2 (CS:GO) MAG-7 | Sonar traces back to its inclusion in the competitive map rotation during the Operation Wildfire event, where it became a popular prize within the Wildfire Case. The skin quickly gained traction, especially during CS:GO Majors held after its release, as it was used and showcased by various pros. Rumors and community hype about its drop odds and the eye-catching artwork fueled demand—even after the Operation ended, conversations about this skin remained steady.

With the launch of Counter-Strike 2 and the updated graphics engine, the MAG-7 | Sonar saw renewed popularity thanks to its high-contrast finish, which looked even sharper in CS2. It remains a prized skin in the community for both nostalgia and its timeless visual appeal.

How Rare Is the MAG-7 | Sonar?

The CS2 (CS:GO) MAG-7 | Sonar is a Classified rarity skin, making the rarity of MAG-7 | Sonar moderately high in the community. It is only available from the Operation Wildfire Case, which has since been discontinued, increasing its scarcity over time. Because the Wildfire Case is no longer in active drop pools, acquiring the skin now relies on existing cases or the Steam Market, making unboxing odds particularly slim.

The probability of unboxing a MAG-7 | Sonar in CS2 (CS:GO) is estimated at under 3%, as Classified-tier skins are the second-rarest in most cases. There is no Souvenir version of MAG-7 | Sonar, further limiting its supply. While not the most expensive shotgun skin, its colorway and legacy ensure its ongoing popularity among players and collectors.
