The History of the MAG-7 | Cobalt Core in CS2 (CS:GO)

The MAG-7 | Cobalt Core in CS2 (CS:GO) was designed by the prolific skin creator CircuitWolf, who is known for their distinctive mechanical and technological motifs. This skin made its debut in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on April 15, 2015, as part of the Chroma 2 Case release. The vivid blue tones and mechanical overlays closely matched the themes sought after by the community during that time.

After its initial appearance, the CS2 (CS:GO) MAG-7 | Cobalt Core gradually built a reputation, especially as players began to appreciate its clean, cool look during CS:GO Majors. Community hype peaked in waves, particularly during periods when the Chroma 2 Case was actively dropping, and streamers showcased full Chroma-themed loadouts.

Through the years, the MAG-7 | Cobalt Core maintained steady popularity within the skin market, particularly among players who enjoyed affordable yet visually dynamic skins. After the transition from CS:GO to CS2, the skin retained its strong following due to the upgrade in graphics and the persistent demand for affordable, attractive skins. In CS2, the skin continues to be a popular selection in the shotgun category, recognized for its crisp visuals and legacy in competitive play and trading circles.

How Rare Is the MAG-7 | Cobalt Core?

The MAG-7 | Cobalt Core in CS2 (CS:GO) is a Restricted rarity skin, meaning it sits comfortably in the mid-tier for skin exclusivity. It can be unboxed from the Chroma 2 Case, one of the more accessible but still popular weapon cases in CS2 and CS:GO history. The skin was never removed and remains part of the active drop pool, which keeps supply steady but ensures ongoing demand.

As for the probability, Restricted skins like the CS2 (CS:GO) MAG-7 | Cobalt Core have an approximate unboxing rate of 16% per case opening. There is currently no Souvenir MAG-7 | Cobalt Core version available, making standard and StatTrak variants the true measure of rarity among collectors.

Despite a moderate rarity, the skin enjoys considerable popularity because of its modern looks and approachable price point, ensuring it remains a common sight in both casual and competitive play.
