The History of the ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat in CS2 (CS:GO)

Who designed the ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat?
This skin was introduced by the Counter-Strike development team at Valve, rather than an individual artist, as part of the "Chroma" case update.

Appearance History
The ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat first appeared in the "Chroma" case on January 8, 2015, in CS:GO, instantly catching the eye of players due to its unique distressed, fully-rusted blade finish. Breaking away from the more polished, colorful knife skins, its rugged nature mirrored the gritty combat spirit of the game.

Rise to Fame
The ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat in CS2 (CS:GO) quickly became a status symbol, particularly after being showcased in high-stakes CS:GO Major matchups. Collectors and pros gravitated to the skin, often flaunting the knife for its distinctive look and rarity. Community hype surged after several famous unboxings during Twitch streams, vaulting the skin into the spotlight.

Transition into CS2
With the launch of Counter-Strike 2, the CS2 (CS:GO) ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat retained its gritty appeal, benefitting from improved lighting and texture fidelity, which only enhanced its legendary weathered look. It remains one of the most sought-after Rust Coat knives, celebrated by new and veteran players for its iconic status.

How Rare Is the ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat?

Rarity of ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat is classified as "Covert Knife," the rarest drop tier in CS2 (CS:GO) cases. This skin is available from the Chroma, Chroma 2, Chroma 3, and Prime weapon case series. The CS2 (CS:GO) ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat was never removed from the drop pool, but the decline in opening older cases has made this knife scarcer over time.

The unboxing chance for a ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat in CS2 (CS:GO) is extremely low (less than 0.26% per case). There are no Souvenir variants, so all rust coat M9s come from regular cases only. Despite its raw and understated design, its popularity endures thanks to its unique finish and frequent appearances in pro loadouts and trade showcases. The rarity and the low probability of unboxing make the Rust Coat one of the more valuable M9 Bayonet skins.

★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern Description & Effect of Float
The ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat finish is immediately recognizable due to its full-oxidized blade and military-style handle. The appearance is heavily influenced by the ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat float value, which ranges from 0.40 to 1.00. Lower floats result in more visible steel, while higher floats create a more entirely rusted look.

Pattern Difference: While all Rust Coat knives share the same core theme, the mix of rust and exposed steel varies by float value, making each Float unique.

Factory New
The ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat factory new is extremely rare and features more visible clean steel with just a hint of oxidation. Pricing is typically at a premium, with sharp collector interest and higher demand.

Minimal Wear
A ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat minimal wear will show a mix of clean and rusted surfaces, often considered the sweet spot for those who want the design without losing too much steel detail. Price is lower than factory new but still high.

Field-Tested
The ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat Field Tested displays heavier rust, and the steel areas are more muted. These are generally the most affordable and most commonly seen in matches.

Well-Worn
The ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat well worn leans into the full rust effect, showing just a faint trace of steel. Prices typically drop, making this variant accessible for budget-conscious buyers.

Battle-Scarred
A ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat Battle Scarred features a blade overwhelmed by rust—almost no clean metal left visible. These are the cheapest, often sought for the full "apocalyptic" effect.

StatTrak™ versions
Each wear condition also comes in ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat StatTrak variants, which track kills and are valued significantly higher than non-StatTrak. Their rarity and status appeal place them at the top of many collectors' wish lists.

★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat Price & Market Value

How much is the ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat? The ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat price in CS2 (CS:GO) largely depends on its float value and wear level. Factory New is exceedingly rare, often exceeding $700+ USD on the Steam Market or third-party sites. The ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat price generally ranges from $150 to $400 for Minimal Wear, $100 to $250 for Field-Tested, $90 to $200 for Well-Worn, and $85 to $150 for Battle-Scarred.

No Souvenir version is available, which directly impacts the price by increasing scarcity and focusing collector interest solely on regular and ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat StatTrak models. StatTrak variants can double or triple the standard price, while rare low/high float examples attract premium bids. Stickers do not usually influence the ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat price, but special floats might. Is ★ M9 Bayonet | Rust Coat worth buying? For fans of unique, rugged aesthetics and collectors, it remains a solid investment and a true statement piece among CS2 (CS:GO) knives.
