The History of the M4A4 | Howl in CS2 (CS:GO)

Who designed the M4A4 | Howl? The original artwork for the M4A4 | Howl was created by community artists Rawr and Valve contributor sic. However, shortly after its release in the "The Huntsman Collection" in May 2014, it was embroiled in a copyright controversy as the wolf and fire design was found to be stolen artwork. As a result, Valve replaced the art with a hand-painted version, making it an exclusive Contraband skin.

Appearance history: The M4A4 | Howl in CS2 (CS:GO) became the only skin ever placed into the Contraband rarity due to its legal history—Valve removed it from all cases and collections, drastically limiting its future supply.

The skin achieved notoriety during CS:GO Majors as professional players flaunted it on the big stage, increasing its mystique and demand. The community hyped up the CS2 (CS:GO) M4A4 | Howl, especially during periods of skyrocketing skin prices and landmark eSports tournaments.

With the transition into CS2, the M4A4 | Howl retained its legendary status and remained one of the most coveted and valuable skins in the entire Counter-Strike franchise.

How Rare Is the M4A4 | Howl?

The M4A4 | Howl in CS2 (CS:GO) is defined by its extraordinary scarcity. Initially released in the Huntsman Weapon Case, the CS2 (CS:GO) M4A4 | Howl was removed from the drop pool shortly after launch, following Valve’s Copyright dispute. The rarity of M4A4 | Howl is unique as it is the only Contraband-grade skin, a classification created solely for this item. No new copies can be unboxed or dropped, so the total quantity is permanently capped. There are no Souvenir or StatTrak odds through normal means—existing StatTrak versions stem from before the removal. The skin’s rarity, combined with its eye-catching design, drives immense popularity and high market value. Today, only a fixed and sharply limited number exist, making it one of the rarest and most desired skins in Counter-Strike 2.

M4A4 | Howl Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern description:
The M4A4 | Howl finish features a vibrant, hand-painted red wolf howling amidst flames, creating a fiery and unmistakable visual impact.

Pattern difference:
All M4A4 | Howl in CS2 (CS:GO) skins share the same pattern with no major variations, focusing wholly on the primary artwork.

Effect of float:
The M4A4 | Howl float value ranges approximately from 0.00 to 0.40, meaning the skin exists from Factory New to Battle-Scarred, but not as low-float or as worn as some other skins. The float impacts the sharpness and vibrancy of the design, with higher floats showing more wear and faded colors.

Skin Features:
The M4A4 | Howl finish is exclusive, only available as a Contraband skin, with pre-existing StatTrak™ versions.

Wear levels explained:
M4A4 | Howl Factory New: The most desirable version with crisp colors and minimal abrasions, often commanding the highest price due to its pristine appearance and rarity.
M4A4 | Howl Minimal Wear: Slightly more common than Factory New but still rare. Shows minuscule wear, maintaining visual excellence, and trades for a premium.
M4A4 | Howl Field-Tested: Noticeable wear appears, especially on the main body and edges. Offers a balance between price and visual integrity.
M4A4 | Howl Well Worn: Greater abrasions and faded elements. Preferred by collectors on a budget, but with clear signs of use.
M4A4 | Howl Battle Scarred: The most worn variant, with the graphic significantly faded or scratched. The low price for this wear level is offset by its scarcity as fewer Battle Scarred remained after the skin’s discontinuation.
M4A4 | Howl StatTrak™: Separately tracked kills make the M4A4 | Howl StatTrak even rarer, with pre-restriction StatTraks being among the most prized collector’s items due to their unique status.
M4A4 | Howl float value is a crucial factor—lower float commands massive premiums, while all legal wear levels are treasured by collectors.

M4A4 | Howl Price & Market Value

The M4A4 | Howl in CS2 (CS:GO) commands legendary status and steep prices across all conditions. The CS2 (CS:GO) M4A4 | Howl price in Factory New condition ranges from $6,000 to even above $10,000, depending on float value and stickers. In Minimal Wear, the M4A4 | Howl price typically sits between $4,500 and $7,000. Field-Tested variants are still costly, with M4A4 | Howl price often exceeding $3,500, while Well Worn and Battle-Scarred versions start around $2,500 but can be more expensive due to scarcity. How much is the M4A4 | Howl with StatTrak™? StatTrak versions, especially Factory New and Minimal Wear, are extremely rare and often fetch $15,000 or higher, with unique sticker combos pushing prices up even more.

There is no Souvenir version of the M4A4 | Howl, so tournament and pro signature premiums do not apply. Float value, rarity, and historic sticker placement (like Katowice 2014 and 2015) enormously influence prices. Is M4A4 | Howl worth buying? For collectors and serious skin investors, its unmatched exclusivity and rising value make it an iconic and potentially smart acquisition.
