The History of the M249 | Warbird in CS2 (CS:GO)

M249 | Warbird in CS2 (CS:GO) was designed by The Honey Badger and introduced to the game as part of the Spectrum 2 Collection on September 14, 2017. The design features a weathered, patchwork motif with prominent red accents and stenciled numbers, evoking imagery of a heavily used, field-repaired military LMG. Its addition came at a time when players were seeking more distinctive and lore-rich finishes. Early community response was positive, especially among fans of realism and post-apocalyptic themes. While the M249 itself rarely sees use in high-level competitive play, CS2 (CS:GO) M249 | Warbird attracted a loyal fanbase due to its authenticity and gritty vibe. During certain CS:GO Majors, the skin saw increased interest as collectors and players showcased it during mid-tier matches, further boosting its profile. With the transition into CS2, the M249 | Warbird retained its cult following, appreciated for its unique visual identity and solid presence in both casual play and collections. Its legacy continues as a skin that’s both eye-catching and steeped in the history of community-driven skin design.

How Rare Is the M249 | Warbird?

The rarity of M249 | Warbird is classified as Mil-Spec (blue), making it one of the more common drops in the Spectrum 2 Case, the exclusive package where it was introduced. M249 | Warbird in CS2 (CS:GO) can be unboxed from this case, with no current souvenir version available. Although it's not the rarest skin, its distinctive look has contributed to sustained popularity within the community. Since it remains in the active drop pool as part of the Spectrum 2 Case, supply has remained steady, keeping prices relatively stable. CS2 (CS:GO) M249 | Warbird is more affordable compared to higher-tier skins, and the probability of unboxing one mirrors that of other Mil-Spec finishes, estimated at approximately 79.92% for a Mil-Spec drop. The lack of souvenir editions lowers the ultra-rare appeal, but its vivid aesthetic assures a regular presence on the marketplace and in player inventories.

M249 | Warbird Wear Levels and Conditions

The M249 | Warbird in CS2 (CS:GO) features a rugged, worn metal aesthetic with vivid red accents, stenciling, and patchwork shapes, simulating a firearm that's seen harsh action. The M249 | Warbird finish is heavily influenced by the skin's float value, which ranges from 0.00 to 1.00, making it available at Factory New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn, and Battle-Scarred levels.

M249 | Warbird factory new: Boasts the sharpest, cleanest details, with minimal visible distress and the most vibrant red coloring, making it the most desirable and expensive version.
M249 | Warbird minimal wear: Slightly more surface abrasions begin to show, but the skin still looks relatively pristine, retaining much of the original visual impact at a lower price point than Factory New.
M249 | Warbird Field Tested: More obvious signs of wear and dulling of colors, with some paint worn off at common contact points. This version is often favored by budget-conscious players seeking the skin's iconic look without paying top dollar.
M249 | Warbird well worn: Heavy surface scratches and faded colors dominate this tier, with the M249 | Warbird finish showing substantial distress and increased metallic exposure.
M249 | Warbird Battle Scarred: The most distressed, with extensive wear, faded patterns, and visible metal, greatly enhancing the war-torn aesthetic at the lowest price.
M249 | Warbird StatTrak: All wear levels are available in StatTrak™ versions, which track kills and carry a premium. StatTrak variants, especially in lower float values like M249 | Warbird factory new, are more expensive and highly sought-after by collectors. The M249 | Warbird float value dramatically impacts the skin's price and appearance, giving each wear level a unique character among enthusiasts.
