The History of the M249 | Sage Camo in CS2 (CS:GO)

The M249 | Sage Camo in CS2 (CS:GO) was introduced as part of the eSports 2013 Winter Case on December 18, 2013, making it one of the earliest cases skins for the M249. The skin was designed by the Valve art team and features a classic sage green and brown camouflage pattern reminiscent of military camo gear.

Initially, the CS2 (CS:GO) M249 | Sage Camo saw modest popularity, most commonly acquired through case openings rather than used in high-level matches. Its rise to temporary fame occurred during select CS:GO Majors, when it was sometimes spotted in off-meta plays and eco rounds, generating a niche fanbase appreciative of its understated look.

Throughout the years, community hype periodically spiked around the M249 | Sage Camo, especially during themed events or when players chased legacy collections. Its seamless transition into CS2 preserved its relevance as a heritage skin, giving it historical value among collectors who appreciate original CS:GO aesthetics.

While not celebrated for flashy gameplay moments, the M249 | Sage Camo is part of the foundational skin ecosystem that continues to appeal to both new and veteran Counter-Strike fans.

How Rare Is the M249 | Sage Camo?

When it comes to the rarity of M249 | Sage Camo in CS2 (CS:GO), this skin is classified as an Industrial Grade (light blue) finish. The CS2 (CS:GO) M249 | Sage Camo is one of the more common machine gun skins, easily unboxed from the eSports 2013 Winter Case. The rarity of M249 | Sage Camo means it is often found at a low price point and maintains steady supply due to regular case openings through its active drop pool.

Unlike ultra-rare skins, the M249 | Sage Camo is not exclusive and does not have a Souvenir version, so the odds are relatively high when opening the associated case. It is not the subject of rare drops or limited events, further contributing to its commonality. Nevertheless, its popularity remains steady, especially among completionist collectors and fans of camouflage-inspired aesthetics.
