The History of the M249 | Hypnosis in CS2 (CS:GO)

The M249 | Hypnosis in CS2 (CS:GO) was created by the prolific community designer "Unknown Artist" as part of The Mirage Collection. It was first introduced to the game on May 23, 2017, during Operation Hydra.

The skin immediately drew attention for its hypnotic swirl design, which was quite different from the more vibrant color schemes common in other collections. During CS:GO Majors, the spiral pattern of CS2 (CS:GO) M249 | Hypnosis generated buzz for its retro vibe and unique visual impact.

Interest in the skin spiked during Operation Hydra, when players could obtain Mirage Collection packages. While it rarely reached the same legendary status as AWP or AK-47 skins, the Hypnosis maintained a steady popularity in the community—especially among fans of more understated aesthetics.

With the transition from CS:GO to Counter-Strike 2, the M249 | Hypnosis has continued to appeal to dedicated skin collectors and fans who appreciate legacy items. Its relatively low production numbers add to its allure, making it a noteworthy skin for those seeking unique pieces in CS2.

How Rare Is the M249 | Hypnosis?

The rarity of M249 | Hypnosis in CS2 (CS:GO) is classified as Mil-Spec Grade, making it more accessible than high-tier skins but still desirable due to its limited drop source. Players can obtain the CS2 (CS:GO) M249 | Hypnosis exclusively through The Mirage Collection, which is available via in-game drops, trade-ups, and select souvenir packages during special events.

Rarity of M249 | Hypnosis is impacted by its unavailability in most case drops, making it relatively limited compared to newer skin collections. There is no Souvenir version of the Hypnosis, and the odds of unboxing one through the Mirage Collection are estimated to be roughly 12.5% for a Mil-Spec item per drop, but considerably lower when considering the specific chance for M249 | Hypnosis itself.

Despite its mid-tier rarity, the consistent demand keeps the skin moderately popular within the trading community, especially among collectors.

M249 | Hypnosis Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern description
The M249 | Hypnosis in CS2 (CS:GO) is distinguished by its swirling black and silver spirals that cover the gun completely, giving it a hypnotic, almost dizzying appearance. The M249 | Hypnosis finish remains consistent in its spiral effect, though wear level affects brightness and amount of visible scratches.

Pattern difference
Unlike some other skins, the M249 | Hypnosis pattern does not vary significantly with pattern index; each skin reliably displays the spiral design.

Effect of float
The M249 | Hypnosis float value ranges between 0.00 and 0.70. This range allows the skin to appear in all five standard exterior conditions: Factory New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn, and Battle-Scarred. Lower float values (closer to 0.00) mean fewer scratches and a brighter finish, while higher floats increase wear and fade.

Skin Features and Wear levels explained:
M249 | Hypnosis factory new: Bright spirals, almost no scratches, and high shine. M249 | Hypnosis factory new skins usually command a higher price due to their pristine state.
M249 | Hypnosis minimal wear: Very subtle wear, small edge abrasions. M249 | Hypnosis minimal wear is nearly as visually appealing as factory new, but slightly less costly.
M249 | Hypnosis Field-Tested: Noticeable scratches and some dulling of the spiral detail. M249 | Hypnosis Field Tested is a budget option with a well-balanced look for most players.
M249 | Hypnosis well worn: Significant wear with fading spirals and prominent scratch marks. M249 | Hypnosis well worn is much cheaper, but some pattern detail is lost.
M249 | Hypnosis Battle Scarred: Most worn state, with much of the spiral faded or missing and extensive abrasions. This is the least expensive variant.
M249 | Hypnosis StatTrak: StatTrak versions are available in all wear levels and will track enemies eliminated with the weapon. StatTrak adds a noticeable price increase to all wear categories.
M249 | Hypnosis float value: The skin’s value and appearance are directly tied to the float value, affecting the price and desirability. Collectors target lower float and StatTrak M249 | Hypnosis finish for premium prices.
