The History of the ★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened in CS2 (CS:GO)

The design of the ★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened was introduced by the CS:GO development team at Valve, inspired by the original Counter-Strike's classic knife shape and modernized with the striking case-hardened finish. The skin made its debut during the CS20 Case update in October 2019, commemorating the 20th anniversary of Counter-Strike. Its iconic blue and gold mottling quickly caught the community's attention, especially when rare "blue gem" variants surfaced in high-profile unboxings. CS2 (CS:GO) ★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened gained major popularity during several CS:GO Majors, where prominent esports pros showed off their exceptional blue gem knives, fueling collector hype. The uniqueness of each knife's pattern and the lore of high-value blue gems led to significant buzz in the CS:GO community, especially during case opening events and YouTube unboxing trends. When the skin transitioned into CS2, its popularity soared again, as the classic knife became more accessible and desirable among new and returning players. To this day, ★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened in CS2 (CS:GO) is seen as an emblem of prestige, rarity, and Counter-Strike history, remaining a coveted prize on the Steam Community Market and among elite collectors.

How Rare Is the ★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened?

The rarity of ★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened in CS2 (CS:GO) is classified as Covert, the highest possible knife rarity. This skin can only be obtained through unboxing certain cases, specifically the CS20 Case. As CS2 (CS:GO) ★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened is a rare knife, the odds of unboxing it are extremely low—roughly 0.26% for any knife, with even lower probability for coveted "blue gem" pattern variations. The Rarity of ★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened is further impacted by the removal or scarcity of CS20 Cases from active drop pools, which limits incoming supply and keeps market prices high. There are no Souvenir versions, making unboxing the only way to acquire one directly. The skin enjoys immense popularity due to its classic appeal and the prestige of ownership, especially for knives with large blue areas that command premium prices in the trading community.

★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern description:
The ★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened finish features a unique case-hardened pattern with swirls of blue, gold, and purple. Each individual knife has a distinct pattern index, with some—known as "blue gems"—showcasing a predominately blue blade that is especially prized by collectors.

Effect of float:
The ★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened float value ranges from 0.00 to 1.00, making it available in all wear levels: Factory New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn, and Battle-Scarred. The amount and placement of blue sections are not affected by float but by the pattern seed. Lower float values tend to retain better overall shine and reduce scratches.

★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened Factory New:
The Factory New version offers a pristine finish with minimal to no visible scratches. It commands a premium price, especially with a high blue percentage pattern.

★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened Minimal Wear:
This tier displays slight abrasions but still maintains much of the original luster. Popular among players seeking near-perfect visuals at a lower price than Factory New.

★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened Field Tested:
Field-Tested knives show moderate wear and a more noticeable loss of gloss. Still desirable due to pattern variance, with blue gem Field-Tested knives also fetching high prices.

★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened Well Worn:
This condition has heavy wear and a duller finish but remains popular due to the affordability and still-unique patterns.

★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened Battle Scarred:
Heavily worn, with substantial scratches and faded coloring. However, rare blue gems in this condition are still valuable.

★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened StatTrak™:
The StatTrak version tracks kills and adds a digital counter on the handle, increasing market value and prestige. StatTrak™ Factory New or Minimal Wear blue gems can command astronomical prices in the marketplace.

★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened finish:
The appeal of this skin lies in the variety and rarity of its finish, with blue gem patterns always in highest demand.

★ Classic Knife | Case Hardened float value:
A lower float value usually results in more vibrant and less scratched finishes, especially prized among collectors.
