The History of the AUG | Chameleon in CS2 (CS:GO)

The AUG | Chameleon in CS2 (CS:GO) was created by the community designer Owen "Facepunch" Jones and was added to the game on February 20, 2014, as part of the "Phoenix Collection" during Operation Phoenix. Its design, which depicts a colorful chameleon face and dynamic lines, quickly gained recognition for its fresh style—standing out from the traditional military themes of many earlier skins. The CS2 (CS:GO) AUG | Chameleon saw a rise to fame during the Operation Phoenix era, as it became one of the go-to AUG skins featured by pros and content creators. The hype surrounding the Phoenix Case—propelled by the return of classic maps and new skin selections—helped cement the Chameleon's place in community lobbies and professional play. Over the years, its value persisted thanks in part to its memorable look and its frequent appearances in competitive matches. As Counter-Strike 2 launched with enhanced skin rendering, the Chameleon benefited from crisper visuals, further boosting its status among collectors and long-time fans of the series.

How Rare Is the AUG | Chameleon?

The AUG | Chameleon in CS2 (CS:GO) is classified as a Covert Rifle Skin, making it one of the rarest drops you can obtain from the Phoenix Weapon Case. The CS2 (CS:GO) AUG | Chameleon is not available in any active drop pool since the Phoenix Case was discontinued, which further increases its rarity. The Rarity of AUG | Chameleon is high: as a Covert item, it has an extremely low unboxing probability—approximately 0.64% for a non-StatTrak version and even lower for StatTrak variants. No official Souvenir version exists for this skin, so Souvenir odds are essentially zero. Despite not being the rarest AUG skin, its age, limited supply, and pop-culture references maintain high popularity among both casual players and serious collectors.

AUG | Chameleon Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern Description: The CS2 (CS:GO) AUG | Chameleon boasts a bright green base adorned with a vibrant chameleon illustration, highlighted with yellow streaks and subtle detailing that brings a unique aesthetic. The AUG | Chameleon finish remains consistent, but float value significantly affects wear and visibility of scratches.

Pattern Difference: The skin’s visual is not affected by pattern index – all Chameleons look the same apart from wear.

Effect of Float: AUG | Chameleon float value ranges from 0.00 to 1.00, allowing for all wear levels. Higher float values introduce more scratches, especially around the edges.

AUG | Chameleon Factory New: Minimal abrasions, near-pristine artwork, and coveted by collectors; usually commands the highest price, often $20 or more.
AUG | Chameleon Minimal Wear: Slight scratches and barely visible imperfections, keeping most of the design intact; prices are slightly lower than Factory New.
AUG | Chameleon Field Tested: Noticeable surface wear, particularly along sharp edges, but still maintains color vibrancy; one of the most common and affordable versions.
AUG | Chameleon Well Worn: Heavy wear, significant fading and scratches evident, the chameleon artwork is less vivid; offers budget entry for collectors.
AUG | Chameleon Battle Scarred: Most paint removed, muted graphics; only recommended for those seeking the lowest price.
AUG | Chameleon StatTrak: Tracks kills in-game and is much rarer; available in all wear levels. The StatTrak AUG | Chameleon finish and AUG | Chameleon float value impact price greatly, with FN and MW StatTrak variants especially prized.
