The History of the USP-S | Cortex in CS2 (CS:GO)

The USP-S | Cortex in CS2 (CS:GO) was designed by the community artist "Hanzo" and was introduced on February 15, 2018, as part of the Clutch Case update. Its debut marked a fresh direction for pistol skins, featuring a surreal, brain-inspired pattern splashed with vibrant hues of pink, gray, and neon green. The design quickly stood out among other pistol finishes and generated considerable buzz during its early months.

USP-S | Cortex caught the eye of many professional players and gained increased attention during CS:GO Majors, where it was frequently seen in play and showcased on live streams, particularly after its release. Its bold appearance and reasonable pricing led to a surge in demand, resulting in the skin becoming a staple amongst both casual fans and top-tier pros.

With the transition to CS2, the CS2 (CS:GO) USP-S | Cortex continued its popularity, refreshed by improved lighting and graphics in the new game engine. The community maintained its enthusiasm, crediting the Cortex for being one of the more affordable and recognizable USP-S skins. Its lasting appeal is tied to its artistic value, widespread use, and presence in professional play, ensuring its place in the Counter-Strike skin legacy.

How Rare Is the USP-S | Cortex?

The USP-S | Cortex in CS2 (CS:GO) is classified as a Classified rarity skin, making it a relatively rare drop. It can be obtained from the Clutch Case, one of the most popular and widely opened cases since its release. The CS2 (CS:GO) USP-S | Cortex was never removed from the active drop pool, ensuring a steady—though limited—supply.

Rarity of USP-S | Cortex means its drop odds are estimated at roughly 3.2% per Classified slot when opening a Clutch Case, and it does not exist as a Souvenir version. This maintains its moderate scarcity while keeping prices accessible. Its bold design and vibrant color palette make it highly popular among players seeking a unique, artistic finish for their inventory, helping it retain high market desirability without being an ultra-rare or discontinued item.

USP-S | Cortex Wear Levels and Conditions

Pattern description
USP-S | Cortex in CS2 (CS:GO) is notable for its surreal art design: a digital mural combining neon pink, teal, and dark gray in a brain motif. The pattern is fixed, so it does not change across different models.

Effect of float
USP-S | Cortex float value ranges between 0.00 and 1.00, meaning it is available in all conditions: Factory New (FN), Minimal Wear (MW), Field-Tested (FT), Well-Worn (WW), and Battle-Scarred (BS). Higher float values introduce visible scratches and wear, predominantly on the slide and suppressor, slightly fading the vibrancy.

Skin Features
This skin offers StatTrak™ variants, which track confirmed kills and usually carry a market premium.

USP-S | Cortex factory new
Most vibrant and clean appearance, typically priced highest. The finish is immaculate with no significant scratches, preserving all details.

USP-S | Cortex minimal wear
Very small abrasions can be seen under close inspection, mainly on the suppressor. The color and finish remain bright, and prices are slightly lower than factory new.

USP-S | Cortex Field Tested
Noticeable wear appears, mostly around the grip and barrel. The design remains intact, but a slightly faded look emerges. Field-Tested versions strike a balance between price and visual quality.

USP-S | Cortex well worn
Heavy abrasions on the main body, leading to a more distressed and faded version of the original artwork. It's a budget-friendly choice, but artistry is visibly affected.

USP-S | Cortex Battle Scarred
Maximally worn with a much more faded finish and pronounced scratches, especially on the slide and suppressor. This tier is often the cheapest, but the artistic details are far less vibrant.

USP-S | Cortex StatTrak
StatTrak versions are available for all wear levels and are easily recognizable by the digital kill counter. USP-S | Cortex StatTrak skins are more expensive due to the added functionality and increased collector demand.

USP-S | Cortex finish remains the same in terms of artwork, but the vividness and clarity are directly influenced by the float value and wear level.

USP-S | Cortex Price & Market Value

USP-S | Cortex in CS2 (CS:GO) exhibits a wide price range, making it accessible for every budget. The CS2 (CS:GO) USP-S | Cortex price for Factory New (FN) currently ranges from $4.50 to $7 USD, while Minimal Wear (MW) costs around $3 to $5. Field-Tested (FT) versions sell for $2 to $3, Well-Worn (WW) for approximately $1.80 to $2.50, and Battle-Scarred (BS) variants can be found as low as $1.50. The USP-S | Cortex price for StatTrak™ versions is significantly higher, often nearly double the non-StatTrak alternatives: StatTrak FN commands $12 to $18 but can go higher for clean floats.

Souvenir versions do not exist for this skin. Factors influencing the USP-S | Cortex price include the wear level, float value (lower float is more desirable), and any rare or sought-after stickers applied. How much is the USP-S | Cortex with high-tier stattrak or low float? These can reach premium prices, especially with rare sticker combos.
